Chutes and Ladders

December 2006
Duration: c. 4.15
Instrumentation: Solo Violin

Program Notes

Chutes and Ladders is an experiment with Locrian mode, mostly focusing on B Locrian. After a short introductory passage, the piece follows an arch form. The use of harmonics and double stops are pre-dominant features throughout the piece. Along with these techniques, characteristic septuplet runs (chutes) and intervallic passages (ladders) give the piece the character that inspired the title.
